Whether your pet loves to play, or is the silent type who want to be pampered - have we got a vacation in store for him/her. We have extra large, spacious, airy indoor & outdoor comfortable suites and plenty of outdoor space to roam and romp in, our trained and caring staff welcomes all furry friends to relax and play!  Whether you are here from a internet search or because you were recommended by a friend or your veterinarian, you will soon realize that Shores Kennels has nothing in common with other kennels.  We can't stress enough the need for open air kennels with the clean air flow that only comes from with an indoor / outdoor boarding facility.  A Little bit about your host... First of all, I didn't get frustrated by a nine to five job and decide to open a boarding kennel without any prior knowledge of HOW to take care of pets or because I thought it would be "fun". (even though it is ☺) This has been a lifelong career for me, one that I take very seriously...my first job at the age of 15 was right here at Shores Kennels. I learned from hands on experience from knowledgeable handlers what were the necessary components for a happy and healthy guest.  January of 2009 marked 34 years of my working at Shores Kennels and March 3 of 2009 was my 23 rd anniversary as its owner, making this the only kennel in Macomb County that has been continuously run by the same family for over 20 years.       Drive Entrance                  Office entrance                        If you need a pet sitter for any reason, vacations - business trip, day trips, work by contractors, parties at your home, hospital stays, pets displaced by home fires...or daycare while you are at work . This is the place.  We are a long or short term hotel for dogs!      As far as pet boarding kennels go, we are a smaller place, allowing us to develop a personal relationship with each of our guests, as well as their owners. It is that personal service and the care we provide that is the hallmark of our reputation. Our guests love us because of that special relationship and the great time they have while they are here. Our handlers all have years of experience working with dogs as trainers and behaviorists.  Because we know how dogs think, our guests love coming back! They are not lost in the shuffle of the mega kennel, overwhelmed by the echo of barking dogs off of industrial building walls. We welcome all sizes, ages and breeds of dogs, cats & birds. Our facility and staff can handle all types of dogs. It our focus to make sure they are happy!  Your pet's stay here will be safe and comfortable, so you can vacation worry free. Our rates are all inclusive. Which means, we do not charge extra for trips outside several times a day to potty, for feeding the food you provide, keeping track of toys or beds. Please note: you will need to bring your pet's own food, there is a daily charge for us to supply dog food. As a courtesy, all pets staying 5 days or longer get a complimentary bath before they go home. Your pet can vacation at affordable rates. Our rates are especially geared for working families who want to be able to leave their pets in the care of professionals and be able to afford it. The same is especially true for multiple pet owners, as multiple pet owners ourselves, we know the necessity of searching for services geared toward us. We give you great service at a great value. We have always maintained a common sense approach to our pet care services. Our focus has always been on our guests...not industry gimmicks. Our kennel by its design is pretty relaxed, while there is some barking, it is not deafening. The reality is...your pet is really not all that concerned about bed time stories, fountains, fake grass, fake trees...or flat screen TV's.  What they are interested in and thrive on, is attentive care and affection from dedicated dog lovers and pure fun in the form of exercise in our huge play yards. We also need to point out that our guests need relaxation time too.  Over stimulating guests can cause irritable pets.  Nap time is a necessary time in their day. Often we hear that pets rest up for a good day or two after they get home...it is because they get at least three times the amount of exercise than they would normally while at home. This 'recovery' from their vacation is normal, just like yours is when you have had a good time on your vacation! Our guests love games in our huge play yards, either individually or as a group, They prefer their own diet, fed just the way they like it, sleeping in their own bed, in their own private area and of course treats for no particular reason! Just like at home.  We play music for them 24/7, but you should know, we don't plan on putting in flat screen TV's, at least, not until we meet a dog or cat that can operate a remote control! Vaccination Requirements
Rabies	1 or 3 year
DHLPP	1 or 3 year
Bordetella**	1 year (injectable or intra nasal)

Frequently it is necessary to make short notice appointments for boarding, we understand that last minute invitations or emergencies arise. Contact our office if your vaccines are not current for our recommendations. In normal situations. We prefer that Bordetella be done a couple weeks prior to arrival at the kennel either by intra nasal (I/N) or injection.  Be aware that vaccinating the day of, or a few days prior to arrival, there is a possibility your dog may come down with a mild form of the virus. We prefer you do not vaccinate immediately prior to arrival. If you find your pet's vaccines are recently expired we request you contact our office for instructions. Senior dogs may be exempt from yearly vaccines. As always we defer to your veterinarian's decision.

Sincerely, Carol    A Little bit of History       Our beautiful old home was built in 1948, the kennel was founded in 1972, and since that time has been serving the pet owners of Macomb, Oakland and Eastern Wayne County, we specialize in boarding for dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes. While our basic design has remained consistent we have modernized the kennels and added features and services that have enhanced every pet's stay with us. All pets are monitored diligently. We offer play groups and individual walks. Limited grooming services, manicures and massage therapy. All under the watchful eye of experienced caregivers. In 1974, as a teenager of 15, I came to Shores Kennels and landed a job as a professional pet groomer. Little did I know that twelve years later, in 1986, I would come to own the lovely old home and property. That "first job" led to what was to become a life long career in the pet care field, not only as a boarding kennel operator, but a handler in conformation dog shows, obedience, hunt tests and a breeder of Champion American Cocker Spaniels, Golden Retrievers and Vizsla, as great performance dogs in the dog show ring, the filed, and our most proud accomplishment wonderful family pets.
