Welcome to the Shores Kennels web site. My name is Gina Vesco, I am and have been the owner and operator of our little pet resort, since 1986. Not only do I work here, but my home is located on the grounds, just a few steps from the kennel. That means I don't go home after we close. I am at home. We live dogs 24/7!  Our charming estate is located on Harper Avenue, on 1.5  beautiful acres that are dedicated to the comfort and care of your pet.  We are in close proximity to major highways (I-94, I-696 & M-59) making us accessible from the northern suburbs of New Baltimore, Chesterfield or the Grosse Pointes within 10 minutes.  3/4 of a mile off of the Harper South exit 234A.   Together, the dedicated people who work here and myself provide full service pet boarding to family pets just like yours. A stay at Shores Kennels is like a vacation for your pet. Whether your pet loves to play, or just be pampered - have we got a vacation in store for him/her. Some guests just want to have fun, and that's exactly what they'll have at Shores Kennels. Perhaps the only problem with a stay here, is that your pet may just not want to come home!  We have extra large, spacious, airy indoor & outdoor comfortable suites and plenty of outdoor space to roam and romp in, our trained and caring staff welcomes all furry friends to relax and play!  Shores Kennels...should be THE vacation destination for your pet!  You probably are at this web site because you were recommended by a friend, your veterinarian or heard about our place from a happy pet owner.  Shores Kennels has nothing in common with other kennels.  We can't stress enough the need for open air kennels with the clean air flow that only comes from with an indoor / outdoor boarding facility.  I didn't get frustrated by a nine to five job and decide to open a boarding kennel. This has been a lifelong career for me...my first job at the age of 15 was right here.  January of 2008 marked 34 years of my working at Shores Kennels and March 3 of 2008 was my 22 anniversary as the owner.                                    Drive Entrance     Office entrance If you need a pet sitter for any reason, vacations - business trip, day trips, work by contractors, parties at your home, hospital stays, pets displaced by home fires...or daycare while you are at work . This is the place.  We are a long or short term hotel for dogs!      As far as pet boarding kennels go, we are a smaller place, allowing us to develop a personal relationship with each of our guests as well as their owners. It is that personal service and the care we provide that is the hallmark of our reputation. Our guests love us because of the relationship we develop with them and the great time they have while they are here, they love coming back! We welcome all sizes, ages and breeds of dogs, cats & birds. Our facility and staff can handle all types of dogs. It our focus to make sure they are happy!  Your pet's stay here will be safe and comfortable, so you can vacation worry free. Our rates are all inclusive. Which means, we do not charge extra for trips outside several times a day to potty, for bringing your own food, toys or bed. Additionally, as a courtesy, all pets staying 5 days or longer get a complimentary bath before they go home. Your pet can vacation at affordable rates. We have always maintained a common sense approach to our pet care services. Our focus has always been on our guests...not industry gimmicks. Our kennel by its design is pretty relaxed, while there is some barking, it is not deafening. The reality is, your pet is really not all that concerned about bed time stories, fountains, fake grass, fake trees...or flat screen TV's.  What they are interested in and thrive on, is love & affection from dedicated dog lovers and pure fun in the form of exercise. Our guests love games in our huge play yards, either individually or as a group, their own food, fed on their schedule, sleeping in their own bed in their own private area and of course treats for no particular reason! Just like at home.  We play music for them 24/7, but you should know, we don't plan on putting in flat screen TV's, at least, not until we meet a dog or cat that can operate a remote control! We do not cage board.  Interior Tour!   Vaccination Requirements    Rabies 1 or 3 year DHLPP 1 or 3 year Bordetella**   1 year (inject)  every 6 mo I/N   **Please note: WE RECOMMEND ALL VACCINES BE GIVEN AT LEAST 10 DAYS BEFORE BOARDING. However, frequently it is necessary to make short notice appointments for boarding. In normal situations. We recommend that Bordetella be done 3 weeks prior to arrival at the kennel either by intra nasal (I/N) or injection.  If you are able to vaccinate by all means do it. Be aware that vaccinating the day of, or a few days prior to arrival there is a possibility your dog may come down with a mild form of the virus. However some protection is better than none. If you find your pet's vaccines are recently expired or about to expire call our office or your Veterinarian for more information.  There are senior dogs that may be exempt from yearly vaccines. Sincerely, Carol    A Little bit of History       Our beautiful old home was built in 1948, the kennel was founded in 1972, and since that time has been serving the pet owners of Macomb, Oakland and Eastern Wayne County, we specialize in boarding for dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes. While our basic design has remained consistent we have modernized the kennels and added features and services that have enhanced every pet's stay with us. All pets are monitored diligently. We offer play groups and individual walks. Limited grooming services, manicures and massage therapy. All under the watchful eye of experienced caregivers. In 1974, as a teenager of 15, I came to Shores Kennels and landed a job as a professional pet groomer. Little did I know that twelve years later, in 1986, I would come to own the lovely old home and property. That "first job" led to what was to become a life long career in the pet care field, not only as a boarding kennel operator, but a handler in conformation dog shows, obedience, hunt tests and a breeder of Champion American Cocker Spaniels, Golden Retrievers and Vizsla, as great performance dogs in the dog show ring, the filed, and our most proud accomplishment wonderful family pets.
